Melissa Goertzen
Owner & Principal Consultant| Strategic Communications Leader | Researcher | Executive Speechwriter
I am a strategist, problem solver, and storyteller by training and professional experience. My projects translate complex ideas into clear, credible, and purposeful communication. I advise clients on engaging targeted audiences and advancing dialogue that drives alignment, action, and influence.
For more than 20 years, I have advised leaders and teams at mission-driven organizations, including government departments, universities, nonprofits, and publishing companies, to sharpen their vision, shape credible narratives, and deliver actionable outcomes with lasting impacts. Successes include developing digital content subscription models, securing grant funding for research and community programs, supporting legislative amendments that enabled industry modernization, and increased product sales.
My approach is defined by transparency, consistency, and clear communication. I support organizations navigating change in complex political, social, economic, and environmental contexts. My work spans strategic communications, research and policy analysis, speechwriting, stakeholder engagement, and program delivery.
Professional milestones include:
– Leading communications strategy, serving as the principal speechwriter, and managing stakeholder relations at the Office of the Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia.
– Producing high-impact policy research and strategic briefs for Ministers and senior leaders at government departments, universities, and nonprofits, shaping legislative and operational decisions.
– Designing strategic frameworks and budget solutions as part of a two-year research and collection management study at Columbia University, including a project that achieved $250,000 in operational savings.
– Authoring human-centered design research and policy reviews that influenced service delivery frameworks and funding decisions.
I hold a Master’s degree in Information Management, along with dual Bachelor’s degrees in English and History. My work has been recognized with the Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal, along with multiple professional awards for excellence in policy, research, and communications.
